A Village Marker Of Bangladesh

A village market plays an important role in the village life of Bangladesh. It is a place where things are sold and bought by the villagers. It sits at a convenient place at the junction of roads or by the side of a river or on a big canal. Large trees are let grow over the whole area to give shade and shelter.

In a village market  the number of permanent shops in very small. Temporary shop- keepers come on the market days and put up their goods for sale in the huts specially made for them. The village market sits once or twice in a week. A small market sits in the afternoon and breaks up by evening. A big one, however, lasts from morning till the early hours of the night. The sellers sit in rows. Everything has its own definite place. The dealers sit there in rows. There are passages in between the rows so that the buyers can move and make choice of their goods.

The shopkeepers in a village market are very clever. They demand very high prices for their goods. So there are haggling and bargaining among the buyers and sellers. As a result there is a confused noise all throughout the market time. The village market is not usually well- kept. Yet village people cannot do without it.
