The Rivers Of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a land of rivers. No other country in the world is blessed whit so many rivers. They play an important role in her country. In fact rivers are the main source of her wealth and prosperity. The rivers of Bangladesh are fed by the rain water. So they as sue a small figure in summer. But in the rainy season they become very large. Some of them look like big arms of sea. Then their waters overflow the band and run over the fields. The chief rivers of Bangladesh are the Padma, the Meghna, the Jamuna and the Brahmaputra.

Bangladesh is an agricultural country. She required a good deal of water for the bumper growth of her crops. Her rivers help her raise crops in plenty. So paddy and jute grow in Bangladesh in plenty. To speak the truth the economic prosperity of Bangladesh mostly depends of her rivers.

Rivers are important waterways of Bangladesh. Steamers, Launches and boats ply through them all the year round. We go by river from one place to another. Our goods are also carried to different places by river. Rivers are not unmixed good. They overflow their banks, cause flood and damage corps. A Village Marker Of Bangladesh

A village market plays an important role in the village life of Bangladesh. It is a place where things are sold and bought by the villagers. It sits at a convenient place at the junction of roads or by the side of a river or on a big canal. Large trees are let grow over the whole area to give shade and shelter.

In a village market  the number of permanent shops in very small. Temporary shop- keepers come on the market days and put up their goods for sale in the huts specially made for them. The village market sits once or twice in a week. A small market sits in the afternoon and breaks up by evening. A big one, however, lasts from morning till the early hours of the night. The sellers sit in rows. Everything has its own definite place. The dealers sit there in rows. There are passages in between the rows so that the buyers can move and make choice of their goods.

The shopkeepers in a village market are very clever. They demand very high prices for their goods. So there are haggling and bargaining among the buyers and sellers. As a result there is a confused noise all throughout the market time. The village market is not usually well- kept. Yet village people cannot do without it.

Rainy Season Of Bangladesh

Ashar and Srabon are said to compose the rainy season. But the hot and wet weather that characterizes these two months lasts for a longer period. There is a heavy rainfall during the whole period.

The monsoon blows from direction on of the Bay of Bengal all through the season. Over cast sky is common. Heavy and incessant rain is frequent. Sometimes the sky remains overcast for many days. Sometimes it rains heavily and at other times it drizzles. During this season rivers began to swell, overflow their bands and water covers the fields. Cultivators become very busy. They harvest their paddy reap their jute.

Sometimes heavy rains causes flood. Water rises and overflows fields and human habitation. It carries away crops and cattle and washes away homesteads. Heavy rain thus works havoc and brings untied sufferings to people. In this reason, boats are chief means of communication in the country. Most women in the country visit their relatives, because the remotest parts are accessible by boats.

Agruculture In Bangladesh

Bangladesh is mainly an agricultural country. About 80% of her population live by agriculture. It provides food grains to our people and raw materials for our developing industries. But agriculture in our country is not in a happy condition. The soil of Bangladesh ids very fertile but the method of agriculture is still old. Our peasants have no idea of the modern methods of cultivation and farming. They do not know how to use manure and fertilizer. They are helpless victims of flood and drought. For irrigation of their land they depend mainly on rains.

The first thing necessary for the improvement of our agriculture is the education of our peasants. Their outlook must be changed. They should be taught the use of scientific methods by which the peasants of other countries get better crops.

The Government should come forward to help the cultivators to get modern agricultural implements. Land should also be nationalized and steps should be taken for collective farming. Flood control measure should be taken. Waste land should be brought under cultivation. Arrangements should be made for intensive cultivations by irrigation. Soil erosion should be stopped. Better seeds should be supplied to farmers at low prices. Arrangements should be made for giving cheap credit to farmers. The system of marketing should also be properly organized in order to ensure fair prices to the farmers for their products.

The Government of Bangladesh have taken up various schemes to improve the condition of agriculture . But the  problems cannot be solved by any single agency or organization but in the concerted efforts of the whole nation.

Nature, land, air, water and all other things around us in which we live are called environment. Forest and tree are cut down of a latge sclae. We have noise from motor vehicles, mills and factories, aeroplanes, domestic appliance, radio, radio, television and so on.

It is another from of pollution. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we take are not always absolutely pure for health. The price of population could not be the death of mankind. Large amount of municipal and industrial wastes are poured into rivers, lakes, bays, seas contaminating them with highly topic chemicals resulting in death of many lives. As a result our environment is getting more and more heat. Noise affects our hearing, our nerves and our ability to work efficiently. We must take effective step to control pollution. Safe Life

First we should drink water from a source that contains no arsenic. Tube wells need to be tested to separate the safe from the unsafe. Safe tube-wells should be painted green and unsafe ones should be painted red. More tube-wells should be set up which are free from arsenic and bacteria. Surface water in pond and river is free from arsenic and so it can be used after a process o f treatment. Rain water should be collected for drinking in a bacteria free container.

Safe water supplies are an unavoidable requirement. Simply abandoning requirement. Simply abandoning arsenic contaminated tube wells and reverting to untreated streams or ponds will reduce arsenic related illness at the cost of death and illness form diarrhea disease. There are three options for safe water supplied: (i) treatment of well water before consumption. (ii) sinking wells in arsenic free aquifers and (iii) development of surface water sources with treatment.Water should be boiled to remove arsenic. Healthy balanced diet containing fish and vegetables should be eaten. Food containing vitamins A, C, and E should be taken.

Environment Problem Of Bangladesh

In our day to day live we are experiencing new kind of problem. Our environment is facing new pollution. Arsenic pollution is one of them. It is one of the big problems of our country. Arsenic pollution is causing much harm to human life. It is found in water especially in tube-well water. By drinking this water people are suffering a lot. It causes sore in the fingers or in nay other part of the body. By drinking water polluted by arsenic people get diseased in various ways. Some times the sore turns int gangrene and then to cancer. So arsenic pollution is a great threat to human life.

At present there is no medical treatment or medicine that can prevent arsenic pollution. The bad effect of arsenic can not be described in words. It is a poison. If it gets mixed in our body this or that way. We are sure to suffer in life. So we should take utmost care and guard against this poison. We should find out the remedy to this problem.

Condition of Environment of Dhaka

Dhaka is one of the mega cities of the world. Its population has exceeded one crore. About 40% of its total population can't afford standard residence. They live to slums in miserable condition. They are not aware of health rules. They don't know habitat rights. Dhaka's traffic system leads to its everyday traffic jam. Its atmosphere receives several tonnes of harmful chemicals daily exhausting from vehicles. Dhaka's sky remains full of smoke almost 24 hours a day. Several lakes of are growing up leaving our lives to severe risk. The only river on which Dhaka stands is at stake. Majority of its banks is occupied by buildings and commercials. Its water is dangerously polluted threatening our environment seriously. There are very few open spaces, parks, playgrounds, lakes in Dhaka.

And our environment is not clean at all. Heaps of garbage dustbins are found here and there on roads and streets. There are some mills and factories in and near about the city. Malaria, influenza and recently dengue have become dangerous for our lives. All the citizens of Dhaka are living in a deadlock environment. If our dear Organization Greenpeace spreads its campaign to Dhaka, we all be highly grateful to you.
